The calendar has flipped over to March. There might be piles of snow scattered around, but spring is on its way. Time to tackle it head on with everyone’s favourite task—Spring Cleaning!
Okay, maybe it isn’t everyone’s favourite task, but preparing your home for the change in seasons is a necessary job that feels so good when it gets accomplished. While it might seem daunting before you begin, know that the effort is worth it. Trust in the process!
Spring Cleaning Motivation
Our goal today is to help make your spring cleaning more manageable. It can be a big job that may feel overwhelming or impossible, but not if you plan it smartly. Today is all about spring cleaning motivation! Let’s get it done!
For starters, consider making yourself a checklist. When you have a checklist, you can cross items off your list and gain a sense of accomplishment for a job well done. The world has felt heavier as of late for so many, so taking matters into your own hands might just help to lighten your load starting at home.
Just a note before you begin. Take stock of your cleaning supplies and top up whatever you might need to get the job at hand done effectively. You don’t want to run out part way through a job, only to lose time and your motivation. Think cleaning products, garbage bags and boxes. The bags and boxes will come in handy for anything you want to schedule for junk removal pickups. Make sure to have a pen handy to mark off which tasks have been done and to keep you on task as well.
Make a Plan
To help prevent you from getting overwhelmed, tackle your jobs room by room and designate the time for the work at hand. That might mean one whole weekend, an hour a night, or one or two rooms one day, followed by one or two on another. Give yourself a schedule to complete everything you want to get done, but be realistic with the outcome. Biting off more than you can handle might effectively mean that nothing gets done. It is better to work at it at a pace that is manageable, so that everything gets done.
Once you start, tackle the work from the ceiling down. Gravity matters when it come to dust, dirt, and moving things. Start at the top and move your way down while working yourself out of the room. Don’t forget about ceilings (get those cobwebs), walls (dust collects there too), windows, baseboards, and floors.
The last decision is where to start. That is ultimately up to you. Do you start with the hardest rooms to get them out of the way or the easier rooms for a quick sense of accomplishment? Only you can answer that question, but remember that the goal is to get as much done as possible. Creating a game plan ups the chances of success. And don’t forget to bring in as many other helpers as you might need to get the job done. Think spouse, children, willing friends, or Load of Rubbish if you feel the project is beyond you. We handle estate cleanouts too!
Are you ready? Let’s get started!

We have broken down spring cleaning tasks before, so we’ll stick to a more general approach today. Assess, clean, purge, reorganize. Pull everything out of the space you plan to tackle. Decide what is worth keeping and what you are ready to let go of. Make piles for keep, toss, and donate, boxing up items as you go. Deep clean the area while everything is pulled out, then return whatever items you plan to keep in a tidy and organized manner. Once complete, move on to the next task on your list!
Alternately, make that list and then pick up the phone. if your list alone feels like too much, know that Load of Rubbish is here to help. Whether it comes to removing that old couch you no longer want, packing up the storage room, including the files you have been holding on to for more years than you can count, or taking away clothes that no longer fit, we can make the task at hand easier.
